Why is this program is important?

This certificate is important for healthcare professionals who work in emergency medicine for several reasons:

• Children are not small adults: Children have unique anatomical and physiological differences from adults, which require specialized knowledge and skills to manage emergency situations.
• Pediatric emergencies are common: Children are more likely to experience emergencies than adults, and many of these emergencies require specialized care.
• Pediatric emergencies require special competency set, equipment and medications: The management of paediatric emergencies often requires specialized equipment and medications.
• The emotional impact of paediatric emergencies: Managing paediatric emergencies can be emotionally challenging for healthcare professionals. PEM training includes education on how to effectively communicate with children and their families in emergency situations, as well as strategies for coping with the emotional impact of caring for critically ill or injured children.
